Academic Year 2026 (First semester)

The Stricto Sensu Graduate Program in Communication announces the opening of applications for the candidate selection process, at the Master's and Doctorate levels, aiming to fill vacancies for the first semester of the academic year 2026. The application period is from October 1 to November 14, 2025.

Applications

Application will be carried out exclusively online.

The candidate must choose one of the following modalities:

Regular Modality

Disinformation and Intolerance Observatory (ODI) Modality

The candidate must submit the following documents:

  1. Copy of ID card (preferably) or another nationally valid identification document for Brazilian candidates;
  2. Copy of birth or marriage certificate;
  3. Copy of CPF;
  4. Copy of academic transcript(s) from undergraduate course(s);
  5. Copy (front and back) of the diploma(s) from the undergraduate course(s), registered, from a course recognized by the MEC;
  6. Copy (front and back) of the Master's degree diploma, for candidates for the Doctorate;
  7. Copy of the Master's Course Academic Transcript, for candidates for the Doctorate;
  8. Documented curriculum vitae (preferably Lattes);
  9. Pre-project containing: proposed theme, presentation, objective, and bibliography, according to the model APPENDIX I, on p. 11 of this Public Notice (*);
  10. Application fee of R$ 45.00 (**);
  11. Copy of the application fee payment receipt.

Foreign candidates must also submit:

  1. Copy of the National Migration Registry (RNM) or document proving regular stay in Brazil;
  2. CELPE-BRAS Certificate of proficiency in Portuguese (http://portal.inep.gov.br/acoes-internacionais/celpe-bras). The exam registration receipt may be accepted.

Candidates who completed undergraduate or Master's degrees at foreign institutions must submit the following documents:

  1. Copy of the academic transcript and diploma of the undergraduate course, duly revalidated, according to current legislation, except in the case of international agreements, provided they are incorporated by Brazil;
  2. Copy of the academic transcript and Master's diploma, duly recognized by a Brazilian program recognized by CAPES, for candidates for the Doctorate.

(*) The Research Pre-project must bring relevant elements to the Communication Area and/or adhere to the scope of research conducted by faculty members linked to the Program, as provided at the address: https://www.unip.br/cursos/pos_graduacao/strictosensu/comunicacao/corpo_docente.aspx
The Research Pre-project presented in the selection process may undergo changes if the candidate is selected.

(**) The application fee must be paid via bank slip generated upon completion of the online application form.
The bank slip cannot be paid at the UNIP treasury.

In case of any problem related to generating or paying the slip, it is recommended to contact the Secretary of the Stricto Sensu Graduate Program in Communication directly.

The application fee will not be refunded if the candidate is not approved for any stage of the selection process.

Candidates must send digital copies of the documents, in PDF format, to the email: pgcomunicacao@unip.br and wait for the confirmation of receipt. Only legible copies in original sizes will be accepted.
In case of approval in the selection process, all documents must have their originals presented at the time of enrollment.

Applications with partial submission of documentation or illegible documents that do not strictly comply with the provisions of this public notice will not be accepted.

ADVISOR INDICATION
Candidates who wish to enter the Program with a previously specified advisor must mention this choice in the appropriate field of the Research Pre-project.
The indication made by the candidate may be accepted in cases where the indicated advisor has available guidance vacancies. Therefore, it is important that the theme of the Research Pre-project is compatible with the research line of the chosen advisor. We recommend, therefore, reading the texts available in the Recommended Specific Bibliography.
If the advisor indicated by the candidate has no available vacancies or if there is no indication in the specific field for this, the candidate's documentation will be evaluated by faculty member(s) designated by the Program's coordination.

Selection Process

The Master's and Doctorate Program selection comprises:

Stage I - Eliminatory
The application will only be validated upon payment of the bank slip, submission of complete documentation within the stipulated deadline, and the choice of one of the two available modalities: Regular Modality or Disinformation and Intolerance Observatory (ODI) Modality.

Stage II - Only for candidates approved in Stage I
Knowledge Test, Interview, Foreign Language Proficiency Exam, and Research Project analysis.

As a substitute for the Foreign Language Proficiency exams for admission to the Graduate Program in Communication, the Secretary will only accept the certificates listed below:

  1. English: TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) - minimum 213 points; certificate valid for two years; and, IELTS (International English Language Test System) - minimum 6.0 points; certificate valid for two years.
  2. French: Alliance Française Certificate, with a minimum of 70 points and validity of one year.
  3. Spanish: DELE (Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language), intermediate level from the Instituto Cervantes.

Candidates for the Doctorate course must prove proficiency in a foreign language different from that presented at the time of obtaining the master's degree, and may, for this purpose, present a certificate according to the criteria established above.

Calendar

STAGE I – APPLICATION AND DOCUMENT SUBMISSION
From October 1 to November 14, 2025.
The application will only be validated upon payment of the bank slip and submission of complete documentation within the stipulated deadline.

STAGE II - SELECTION EXAMS FOR CANDIDATES APPROVED IN STAGE I
December 1, 2025 (Monday): Knowledge Test – 9:00 AM / Foreign Language Proficiency - 11:00 AM.
December 8, 2025 (Monday): Interview - from 9:00 AM onwards.

SELECTION RESULT
December 15, 2025 (Monday), from 6:00 PM onwards – Announcement of approved candidates

Enrollment

Enrollment must be done in person at the Program Office in the period from January 5 to 16, 2026, on which occasion the candidate must:

  1. Present the following original documents:
    a) ID Card or another nationally valid identification document for Brazilian candidates;
    b) CPF;
    c) Birth or Marriage Certificate;
    d) Diploma of the Undergraduate Course from a course recognized by the MEC, registered;
    e) Academic Transcript of the Undergraduate Course from a course recognized by the MEC;
    f) Diploma of the Master's Course from a program recommended by CAPES, registered, for candidates for the Doctorate;
    g) Academic Transcript of the Master's Course from a program recommended by CAPES, for candidates for the Doctorate;
    h) 2 recent 3x4 photographs.

    Foreign candidates must also submit:
    i) National Foreigner Registry (RNE)/National Migration Registry (RNM) or document proving regular stay in Brazil;
    j) CELPE-BRAS Certificate of proficiency in Portuguese.

    Candidates who completed undergraduate or Master's degrees at foreign institutions must submit the following documents:
    k) Academic transcript and diploma of the undergraduate course, duly revalidated, according to current legislation, except in the case of international agreements, provided they are incorporated by Brazil.
    l) Academic transcript and Master's diploma, duly recognized by a Brazilian program recognized by CAPES, for candidates for the Doctorate.
  2. Sign the Educational Services Agreement.
  3. Choose the courses to be taken in the semester.
  4. Collect the slip for tuition payment.
